New Year, New You

New Year, New You

Congratulations, you’ve made it past the holidays. You’ve made it through the holiday family dinners that were filled with dreaded questions about your future.

And now that you’ve made it through, you might find yourself sitting here, actually wondering what your next step will be. If you’re like me, I was exactly in that same spot four years ago.

I was working two jobs in retail during the holidays, feeling overwhelmed by the workload all while going through a crappy break up. It wasn’t my best time, and I was eager to move on to bigger and better things. I wanted more for myself-to be my best self.

Then one night, while I was scrolling mindlessly through my Facebook feed, I noticed several ads for a new online program: Fashion Industry Essentials by Parsons Teen Vogue & Yellowbrick.

Just for the hell of it, I decided to research the program more, and by the end of the week, I was already enrolled in the program.

There’s a pretty good chance that if you’ve heard of the program and/or you’re interested in it, then this is probably the main reason you wanted to read this post.

Before I get into what this program actually is, I would like to point out that since completing this program, I have become a visual merchandiser for Mattel. (just saying).

So, what is it? The Fashion Industry Essentials program is an entirely online non-credited program consisting of introductory courses to various aspects in the fashion industry.

My primary focus was/is visual merchandising, but I would also be studying the various aspects of the fashion industry through five courses covering Fashion Visual Style, Design, Fashion Production, Media, Public Relations and Marketing.

Through videos and hands on assignments, I was guided by dozens of respectable instructors, such as Brandon Maxwell and Rebecca Minkoff (Teen Vogue editors and designers).

In total, the program has 24+ hours of online instruction and self-study, including 70+ on-demand video lessons taught by 20+ instructors and a combination of skills and career-focused assignments.

I love how even though I was completing this program online in the comfort of my own home, I felt closer than ever to finally becoming apart of the fashion industry.

What I love even more about this program-maybe even the best part-is that it’s entirely at your own pace! After you sign up, you have a full year to complete the program, which is totally doable.

Life can get crazy-we all know that. Whether you’re working a lot like I was, going to school full time, have kids etc., It’s so nice to know that it’s possible to get ahead without feeling overwhelmed by the pressure of due dates.

If you’ve ever been interested in the fashion industry, I would highly recommend this program. It was so enjoyable, manageable and the certificate I earned helped me get to where I am today.
